The book I choose was Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
1) You read about an entrepreneur:
· What surprised you the most?
What surprised me the most was that he took calligraphy at Reed College, where he later incorporated what he learned from that class to the making of the Mac.
· What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
I admire his drive and ambition for what he wanted, no matter the challenge before him.
· What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
What I least like about Steve Job was that he wasn’t a nice person and was tough on people and even harder on people closer to him.
· Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
He did, at one point Steve Jobs was kicked out of his own company then went to make his own company where he then was bought by Apple to be back in his original company.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
I believe the competencies that Steve Job had was imagination and drive. Just from the very beginning of dropping out of college to how he founded a company called Apple from a garage. To have the drive that he had, especially from all the setbacks but then to also have the mind that he had. The big picture and envision a new world in his mind and thinking about what the consumer wanted and not needed.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
I’ll be honest with you in most books I get confused and lost in due to my lack of attention span but, this one kept me going since I’m a huge Apple lover and admire Steve Jobs.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
If Steve Jobs was around today or if I could ask him for a brief second, the first one would be straightforward. What was your next idea for a product? I know this might seem like a lousy question, but I firmly believe if Steve Jobs didn’t die as soon as he did, I think we would be very different in the tech world right now. My second question is If you didn’t come up with building a computer, what, would you have done or invited? Steve Jobs was a man of marketing and thinking of great ideas and had a team to make them a reality. So essentially, what ideas besides tech were in his mind.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I think Steve Jobs was extremely hard working and was a man who envisioned a new world. Even when he was kicked out of his own company, he still managed a way back in and was able to do what he always envisioned. Though he wasn’t always most liked or had the best temper. The man knew what he wanted and at the end of the day, he made it happen.
Hey Cameron!
ReplyDeleteSteve Jobs is such an iconic creator in the world of tech, it is so interesting to learn about other aspects of his life. I did not know that he took calligraphy and that it influenced his creation of the Mac. His story inspires hard work and dedication but most of all, it personifies the spirit of perseverance. He never gave up, even after enduring the failure of being kicked out of his own company; it truly is so inspiring. Great job on this post!
Hi Cameron,
ReplyDeleteSteve Jobs is the entrepreneur that I chose to read more about also so I liked reading your post and seeing what we agreed or disagreed upon. I also don't admire how he treated some other people that worked closely to him. That is a trait that I would not want to have if I become a CEO and a powerful, well- known entrepreneur like him. I like the questions that you want to ask him if you could, they are interesting and something that I would want to know as well.
Hello, Cameron -
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post! Steve Jobs was a great pick for the reading. A few things that you mentioned surprised me as well, such as the college Steve Jobs attended. Prior to your post I had never heard of Reed College, and always assumed that Jobs went to an Ivy similar to others at his level in the business world. You also mentioned that Jobs was kicked out of his own company at one point; this is something else that I was not aware of and found very interesting.
Cameron,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading and seeing what you had to say about Steve Jobs. I think what Jobs did is a great example of successful entrepreneurship. His mentality was all about passion and hardwork which is why Apple is as successful as it is today. He knew what he wanted and he knew what society needed and had the ability to solve problems before they even became problems. His drive and ambition made his idea so successful.
Hi Cameron! I am starting to see a pattern of big innovators being mean to those around them. Often though, I see they are hardest on themselves which makes sense but does not excuse their actions. Personally, I thought your question was a good one. Technology would definitely be different if he was here so I would love to know what his next idea would have been. It certainly could have been as revolutionary as the iPod.
