4A- Forming An Opportunity Belief

1.)   I have an opportunity belief in a sandwich shop. Not just in any sandwich shop but a special peanut butter and jelly sandwich shop.

2.)   It’s not exactly an essential but there is a lack of specialty peanut butter and jelly sandwich places. The person who is needed is anyone who loves a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I’ve had this idea for a few years that I’ve always gradually grew upon. As of right now, there are no places that sell a good old fashion peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I believe this is a great opportunity due to a lack of market with about 3 stores outside of Florida.

Interview 1.
3.)   PB&J Sandwich lover

4.)   - Would you be interested in a sandwich shop specializing in PB&J? Yes
- Is it an need you believe that you are missing? No, because I can make it at home
- Is it an need that you wish you had? No, but when eating a PB&J reminds me of simpler times and is comfort food.
-How long have you liked PB&J- Since they were a kid.
- How are you dealing with this need currently? Uncrustables
-Are you satisfied with that solution? To an extent but would like more than 2 flavors of jelly

5.)   I learned from this interview that there is a possible market due to a lack of competition and variety.

Interview 2.
1.)   Parent of 2 kids

2.)   - Would you be interested in a sandwich shop specializing in PB&J? Yes, mainly for my kids
- Is it an need you believe that you are missing? No, because they make PB&J daily
- Is it an need that you wish you had? It would be nice to not always make the sandwiches
- How long have you liked PB&J- Grew up with them and now I make it for my kids
- How are you dealing with this need currently? Make homemade sandwiches
- Are you satisfied with that solution? It would be nice for someone to take over and make a sandwich.

3.)   I learned from this interview that kids love PB&J but so do parents. As they make it for there kids for lunch.

Interview 3.
3.)   Average daily person

4.)   - Would you be interested in a sandwich shop specializing in PB&J? Yes of course!
- Is it an need you believe that you are missing? Yes
- Is it an need that you wish you had? They would love to eat at a specialty made PB&J shop
- How long have you liked PB&J- Grew up on them.
- How are you dealing with this need currently? Making them herself but would like to go out and buy a sandwich besides a Uncrustable.
- Are you satisfied with that solution? No would prefer someone else making it.

5.)   I learned a lot from this interview and learned a lot of insight into how successful my business could potentially be.

7.
-I believe my idea did not change throughout this process of interviews and getting feedback.
- I believe that the opportunity is still feasible and is accurate to my envisioned opportunity.
- I believe it depends on the situation and opportunities. In my situation, I believe I should listen to them but not fully change my idea but still make changes based on their feedback.

  1. Hello, Cameron! I enjoyed your opportunity post. I'm a big fan of a good PB & J sandwich, but I haven't seen many places outside of farmers markets that sell more of a gourmet version. However, this opportunity left me wanting a bit more. When opening, how do you plan to separate yourself from what someone can make in their kitchen? Will you focus on a basic menu, offering just the classics but with the highest quality ingredients? How about something like a "jelly bar" where the customer can have many jams, jellies, and preserves to choose from? What about "extreme" PB & J's that take the original idea and truly elevate it. Regardless of the direction, I'm excited to see where it goes!

  2. Hi Cameron!
I really enjoyed learning about your opportunity belief in the idea of a PB & J Sandwich shop. I am always down to have a tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwich and I have never come across a shop that sells only that. When I was visiting Amsterdam, they had french fries restaurants that only sold fries, and this PB & J restaurant idea reminds me of that. I do like this opportunity but I would also want to see and hear some more about it!

  3. Hi Cameron,

You totally had me at PB&J. I am a huge fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I have never really had a gourmet version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but I imagine the possibilities are endless! There are so many varieties of bread, nut butters, and even jelly spreads. I look forward to hearing more ideas for your PB& J shop!
